I would like to thank Mr. Thomas Gantt
for all of the fantastic
images of the Quesenberrys above and the image of Lt. Samuel Slusher of Co. D
at the bottom of this page. Lt. Samuel Slusher is the brother-in-law of James
Quesenberry.
This makes nine sons/brothers in the army; not counting the two elder boys who likely saw some service before the war was out.
George Quesenberry (born January 11, 1824) was perhaps the eldest son: he married Susan Cassell on December 24,1848. He was likely in the war but I have no record of his service. George died aft 1881 Sumner Co., WV. His body was interred Near Hinton WV.
Elijah Quesenberry, born January 14, 1825 was only a year younger than George; he married Eliza Jane Cassell, born: July 5,1824, in June 17,1847 he also was probably in the war.

THE CIVIL WAR
QUESENBERRYS
By John Perry Alderman
Having passed over in some form, the Carroll County Quesenberry's. I thought that it would be briefly in order to mention a family of the same name in Floyd County, Virginia. There are two reasons for attempting this: first it is the only instance I know of any family with nine sons in the Confederate Army and secondly several of these sons lived at times or have descendants in Carroll County, Virginia. On the other hand, my knowledge of John Quesenberry and his family is such that I am sure that there are errors in what follows so having made my apology let us look at the family of John and Nancy Quesenberry.
John Quesenberry, born in 1798, is shown as 52 in the 1850 census of' Floyd County VA, and so was born about 1798 I feel sure that his father was one of the early Quesenberry (s/o George and Martha Quesenberry) settlers in Carroll County Virginia John married Nancy Hylton the daughter of George Hylton and many of their sons bear "Hylton" names. The 1840 census of Floyd shows a household of fourteen, including John and Nancy; members of the household are not however indicated by name. The 1850 census, which does give a listing by name, shows John and Nancy with 10 children, but does not list the older children who by then married and left home, in all it seems there were fourteen offspring's.
